Seattle Hotels
SeattleSeattle is a city located along an inlet of Puget Sound, on the Pacific Ocean. It has a population of approximately 600,000 people within the city proper. It is known as the birthplace of “coffee culture”, and, indeed, many of America’s most successful coffee companies have started there. Seattle is the best blend of urban and rural, a cosmopolitan mixture of big city life, mixed with the small town atmosphere and the lovely scenic vistas everyone associates with Washington state. First of all, everyone who visits Seattle must ascend the Space Needle, where a restaurant with a 360-degree view of the city awaits you. Then there’s the world famous Pike’s Place Market, known the world over for its fresh fish, and the daring young men who casually throw them around. Then there’s the Seattle Aquarium, which, because of its location right on the water, has some of the most spectacular displays on the west coast. If land animals are more your thing, there’s the Woodland Park Zoo, and, for the really daring, there’s an underground tour of the “old” Seattle, which existed before the fire of 1889. Visitors will be led through subterranean paths that were once streets and shops. There are ferries coming and going all day, to all of the nearby ports, including Tacoma, and all points north, like Vancouver and Victoria, in Canada. You can take a ferry ride to Tillicum village, a Native American historical site where you can see how they lived in the “long ago”, and see traditional dances and eat traditional Pacific Northwest delicacies like smoke-grilled salmon. And Seattle can’t be beat for nightlife; there’s coffee, coffee, everywhere, and all of it to drink, not to mention brewpubs, and microbreweries, where you can taste locally made brews not available in any store. And Seattle is very eco-friendly, with bicycles to rent, and hiking in the hills surrounding the city. A few minutes’ drive from the city will put you deep in the Olympic National Forest, which is lush and green nearly all year round.
