Musee Mechanique

The Musee Mechanique is a wonderful and fun museum located in San Francisco. It is the one of the largest collections of privately owned penny arcade games and other related artifacts. There are many things to see here, including mechanically operated musical instruments as well as antique arcade machines. Most of the exhibits in the Musee Mechanique are over a hundred years old. It is located on Pier 45 in Fisherman’s Wharf, but before 2002 it was located in the lower level of the Cliff House restaurant. At certain points between this move, the entire collection was put into storage without the ability of the public being able to view it. There are many well known machines and games in this collection, including Laffing Sal, Susie the Can-Can Dancer, and Carnival. The Edward Galland Zelinsky family owns and maintains the collection to this day. The entrance to the collection is free, but you will want to bring plenty of quarters to place the exhibits. Hotels in San Francisco near Fisherman’s Wharf and the Musee Mechanique are perfect for being close to all of the attractions at the pier and being able to get a view of the bay area from your hotel room window.
