Cliff House

Cliff House is an institution in San Francisco. It is a restaurant that is perched on top of the cliffs north of Ocean Beach on the west side of the city. It overlooks what used to be the Sutro Baths. The National Park Service runs the Cliff House because it is now part of the Golden Gates National Recreation Area. There have been many different incarnation of Cliff House since it was first built in 1858. The first Cliff House was built by Samuel Brennan with just $1500. The second house was built for Captain Junius G. Foster, but her never used it because it was too away from the city. The Cliff House then turned into a place where you can get a carriage ride for Sunday travel. When Adolph Sutro bought Cliff House, he ended up building a new one after the old one almost blew up. Cliff House was rebuilt one more time sometime in the 1920s. This is the one that can be seen today. Hotels in the area of Cliff House are positioned near many other attractions as well, including Ocean Beach, Chinatown, Camera Obscura, and many others that can be reached by foot or by taxi.
