Richmond Hotels
RichmondRichmond, the state capital of Virginia since 1780, is a sprawling metropolitan city that straddles the banks of the James River. Richmond has been the stage for much for an incredible amount of U.S. History. It was in Richmond where Patrick Henry uttered his famous words “Give me liberty, or give me death!” Benedict Arnold, the famous American traitor, led British troops down Main Street in 1781 and destroyed dozens of buildings, including tobacco warehouse. Richmond was a very central city in the American Revolution, and is a popular tourist area today. Perhaps the biggest role that Richmond played, however, was during the American Civil War. As the capital of the Confederacy, it was not captured by Union troops until a week before General Lee surrendered at Appomattox. Despite the richness of Richmond’s history, it has many other attractions. Some of these attractions include splendid old homes, a wonderful fine arts museum, a hands-on science museum perfect for children, as well as monuments, battlefields, and more museums. For those wanting a bit of fresh air, the Valentine Richmond History Center offers a two-hour walking tour of the city. History buffs will enjoy the plentiful battlefields and museums, and families will want to visit the Riverfront Canal Walk. Oh, and don’t forget the nearby NASCAR speedway! Richmond is a must see destination, and prontohotel.com will help you when you decide to go.
