PortlandAmerica’s northwest is one of the most beautiful regions in the world and Portland is one its most beautiful cities. First of all, it’s green, in every sense of the world; ecologically speaking, it’s at the forefront of environmentally friendly transportation and living. In addition, it is literally green, from the highest point your eye can see (the beautiful mountains, to the lush forests at eye level, to the mossy riverbeds underfoot. Come and have a glorious vacation in the invigorating fresh air of Portland, Oregon. Portland is located at the northern end of Oregon, on the Washington border, near the confluence of the famous Columbia and Willamette rivers. It has a population of approximately 600,000 people, and is known the world over for it’s civic beauty and forward thinking citizens. First of all, it is a city for people who love the outdoors. Hiking and biking trails crisscross the Cascades, always with a view of the beautiful Mt. Hood, which is a hiking adventure all on its own. The weather is temperate; though it can rain frequently in the summer, so pack accordingly. Due to aggressive land management practices, Portland is very clean and very well laid out. Walking tours and biking tours can show you the best of Portland, and it has arguably the best public transit system of any city on the west coast. But Portland isn’t all about ecology. It has an official Cultural District downtown, where you can find the best and newest in art, and museums that showcase the history and talents of the Native Americans who resided there. Portland is famous for its many parks and outdoor gardens, and as the weather is perfect for growing roses, it has many showcase rose gardens, like the International Rose Test Garden. It also has Japanese and Chinese gardens, due to the large Japanese and Chinese American populations that reside there. And no city can beat Portland for nightlife, with coffee pars and brew pubs littering the city. There’s always some sort of festival going on, usually with lots of artisans and international cuisine.
