New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden, popularly known as the NYBG, is arguably one of the most famous and striking botanical gardens of the world.  It covers approximately one square kilometer of Bronx Park, and has something spectacular in bloom just about all year long, though obviously spring and summer will bring the most variety.  The NYBG was founded in 1891 when a renowned botanist from the Columbia University wanted to try to recreate the atmosphere of the Royal Botanic Gardens, London.  The NYBG was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1967.  It contains 48 separate gardens and flora collections, not to mention a waterfall, greenhouse, the world famous Peggy Rockefeller Memorial Rose Garden, and the last remaining natural woodlands in New York City.

Because there is so much to see here, you can go online and find out what will be blooming, and what specific exhibits will be there at the time of your visit.  There is also an extensive botanical research library for your perusal. There are self guided tours, docent guided tours, tours for bird watchers, tram tours, butterfly tours, the list is endless.  The NYBG is a nature lovers dream come true.
