Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan Library and museum, located in mid-town Manhattan, is an eclectic mixture of the past and the present, of pop and classical culture. It sits on the corner of Madison Avenue and 36th Street, centrally located to, well, just about anything. It houses an extensive collection of Renaissance art, a musical archive dating back several hundred years, and a diverse selection of the most popular art forms of the past century. There is an entire section devoted to printed manuscripts, many of them written by hand and signed by the famous people who wrote them. There’s also a concert hall that attracts world-renowned acts, and features music festivals and a Friday night concert series. The stage is such that it can accommodate anything from soloists to chamber ensembles to full fledged orchestras. The Morgan complex also offers shopping, in the form of the Morgan Store, where many replicas of items on display can be found, along with re-prints of famous photographs, postcards, and the like. In addition, there are two dining establishments within the complex, one a casual cafe, one a more formal establishment that requires reservations well in advance. You can easily spend the entire day at the Morgan and still feel like there’s more left to see.
