Flatiron DistrictGeneral Info The Flatiron District is a section of New York City located in the down section of Manhattan. It is also known sometimes as SoHo (South of Houston Street) or TriBeCa (Triangle Below Canal Street). The Flatiron District gets its name from the iconic Flatiron Building, which sits at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway. It is triangular in shape, and it perfectly fills the space between the two streets as they diverge to the south. Notable places in the Flatiron District include the Met Life Building and Madison Square Park. Though there are no actual delineations of neighborhoods, the Flatiron District is roughly bounded by Lexington Avenue, 28th Street, Sixth Avenue, and 14th Street. Of late, this area has become known for it’s eclectic mixture of museums and eateries, with many of New York’s trendiest restaurants located nearby. It is also one of the prettiest areas of Manhattan, with many green parks and lush grass. People are drawn to the area to eat, shop, and relax. The Flatiron District is a great place to spend an entire day, since you can eat, shop, go to a museum and visit a beautiful park, all within six square blocks or so.
