East VillageGeneral Info At the beginning of the 20th century the East Village was the area where the aristocratic families of New York used to live. When the Stuyvesant, the Astor and the Vanderbilt moved out, East Village was occupied by immigrants from various nations. In the sixties of the last century, the low rates draw the "beat generation" that was followed shortly after by the punks. Thanks to their influence East Village is full of places that offer live shows with the latest musical tendencies. In the East Village east part you will find the so called "Alphabet City".
