Louisville Hotels
LouisvilleLouisville, long known as the home of the Kentucky Derby, is a city of approximately 250,000 people located on the northern border of the state, which it shares with Indiana. In spite of the fact that it is a de facto “Southern” city, Louisville is a very modern and cosmopolitan place, with an elegant and gracious blend of all things Southern with a modern twist. First on any list of sights to see would have to be Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is run, along with the Kentucky Derby Museum. In addition, Louisville also has a large, well-run zoo, along with dozens of world-class golf courses. For the Bourbon lovers among you, there’s the “Urban Bourbon Trail”, in Old Louisville, where you can have a shot of Bourbon at six of the world’s best known bourbon bars. Or, you can hop in your car and take the short drive to one of the area’s famous Bourbon distilleries. And, though many don’t know this, Louisville is the birthplace of Muhammed Ali, and there is a museum that celebrates his life and career. There is also a long-standing glass blowing industry in Louisville, and there are many glass blowing factories, along with galleries to showcase the best of this local craft. For antique lovers, there’s Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Rd., where antiques stores rub shoulders with vintage clothing stores, glassware stores, and art galleries. And when you’re ready to eat, be prepared for a treat, whether its at one of the local ethnic restaurants, bourbon lounges, or fine dining establishments which are scattered throughout the city. If you just have an urge to spend the day outside with the kids, there is a Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville where you can scream your head off on all of the roller coasters. As you can see, there’s more to Louisville than a horse race!
