Los Angeles Hotels
Los AngelesLos Angeles, while not being the official capital of California (that’s Sacramento, of course), is the unofficial heart and soul of the state. From Los Angeles, one can get to the beach in minutes, or the mountains or desert within a couple of hours by car. It has literally everything: Ocean beaches, shopping, dining, theatre, movie stars, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, the list could fill this page and then some! It is also the home of Griffith Observatory, made famous in James Dean’s Rebel Without A Cause, world famous universities UCLA and USC, eclectic Venice Beach, and the Santa Monica Pier, where hundreds of movies have done location shooting. For upscale shopping, there’s the aforementioned Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, but for those of you on a budget, a fun day could be spent on Melrose Avenue, perusing the thrift shops. Want to surf? LA has over thirty miles of coastline devoted to beaches and ocean activity. There are bus tours of the movie stars’ homes, or one can simply rent a car and go on a private tour. If Disneyland seems too crowded, there’s also Knott’s Berry Farm, or Universal Studios. There’s also the eclectic Farmer’s Market on Olivera Street, where fresh produce can be purchased at a fraction of supermarket costs, and the street fair/flea market next to it has hundreds of local merchants with hand made wares. For physical activity, most of the beaches offer bicycles or roller blades, with miles of beachfront sidewalks.
