If you are a fan of culture and art, you will want to spend a lot of time in Lexington. Not only will you be able to see the local orchestra and ballet companies, but there are also several art galleries and museums where you can view the finest in history and art. There are also many outdoor summer events in Lexington. Not only will you be able to see what the Mayfest festival has to offer with more than 100 arts and crafts booths, but you will also be able to hear that famous bluegrass style of music. Not many other cities in the United States are so famous for this genre of music, but you can hear it everywhere when you are in Lexington. If you want to learn about the history of Lexington, there are many different museums that you can choose from. The most famous of all the historic buildings in the city is Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate. Clay was a former statesman and the home is located just outside of the downtown area. There is also the Lexington History Center. It is located in the old site of the Fayette County Courthouse and is located right in the downtown area of Lexington. There are two museums here, one for the history of the region and another that is dedicated to public safety. There is a third museum there that is currently under construction.
