Fort Lauderdale Hotels
Fort LauderdaleFort Lauderdale is a city of approximately 200,000 people, located on the southeast tip of Florida’s coast. It is crisscrossed with canals, so that just about every part of the city is accessible by watercraft. It is a popular destination for tourists, because of its beautiful beaches, lively nightlife and convenience as a stopping place for yachts and smaller boats passing through on their way to the Bahamas and Florida Keys. But Fort Lauderdale isn’t just about beaches, water and sun. Fort Lauderdale is home to a Planetarium and Observatory, a Botanical Garden and Museum, and even an Antique Car Museum. It is a short car drive (or boat ride) to the everglades, where you can see animals unique to Florida in their natural environments. Manatees, for example, are found almost exclusively in Florida, and there are many preserves where they can be observed in the wild. If, however, you are indeed looking for a little “fun in the sun”, well, this is the place for you. You can spend your days swimming, skin diving, learning to surf, or para-sailing along the many beaches, and when the sun goes down, you can go out and have a mind blowing good time until the sun comes up the next morning. There are beachfront restaurants and bars, restaurants on converted yachts, you name it. And, since Fort Lauderdale is an international tourist destination, with people coming by plane and by boat, there is a lot of shopping. There are outlet malls, upscale boutiques, art galleries that feature work by local artists, some of the finest in the country. And as far as food, the Cuban influence can be felt here and you can buy an expensive, five-course meal, complete with sommelier and crystal, or empanadas from a street vendor, and feel that your money was well spent. If you’re traveling with children, there are museums specifically for kids, as well as Butterfly World and Flamingo Gardens, and there are water parks, as well as skin or scuba diving classes aimed at the younger set.
