Now, it is home to more than 100,000 people coming in second only to the state’s capital city. Not only is Charleston a rich and historic city, it is also one of the nicest. Since 1995 the city of Charleston has been named the best mannered city in the United States. Since it was a colonial city, Charleston’s history spans back all the way to the beginning of the country’s history. You will be able to visit the Old Exchange and Customs House that is located in downtown Charleston. It is one of the top three most important Colonial buildings in the country behind other buildings in Boston and Philadelphia. You can also go and visit the first Museum established in the United States, the Charleston Museum. If you want a break from your fascinating history lesson, you will be able to spend the afternoon in the South Carolina Aquarium, the Audubon Swamp Gardens, or the Gibbes Museum of Art. South Carolina is a beautiful state, and the sights that you will be able to see in historic Charleston will give to the sense of pride of the American people and their humble beginnings.
