Bloomington Hotels
BloomingtonBloomington, Indiana, has long been thought of as practically a suburb of Indianapolis; it is a scant hour away, and shares many of the same characteristics, but nothing could be further from the truth. Bloomington has an identity all its own, and you have to give Bloomington a try. First, it is the location of Indiana University, home of the world famous Hoosiers. The campus is beautiful, with award winning buildings and venues, and is worth a trip all on its own. In fact, it was named by landscape artist Thomas Gaines as one of the five most beautiful campuses in America. It is home to two museums, a medical school, a music school, a historic park, a golf course, tennis courts, and the list goes on. The university, the town of Bloomington, and “the Little 500” bicycle race were immortalized in the movie “Breaking Away”, and Little 500 weekend is one of the most exciting events in college athletics today. But there’s more to Bloomington than it’s University. There are outdoor activities that include rafting and canoeing, hiking, biking, and camping all around Bloomington. Bloomington is home to many world-class golf courses as well, from public to resort. Because of the university’s presence, Bloomington is very progressive, despite having a population of 70,000 people. There are art galleries, music festivals, and live performances of every kind, from theater to classical. Bloomington is home to just about every type of cuisine under the sun, from Thai to Russian to Chinese, and there are coffee shops and pubs that stay open until the wee hours of the morning. There are wineries and brewpubs, too, where micro brewed beers are served. If bus tours are your thing, there are bus tours just about all year round of the beautiful limestone buildings in and around Bloomington, limestone which was mined right there at the Bloomington quarries. Everyone will find something to do in beautiful Bloomington.
