Austin Hotels
AustinAustin is the capital of Texas, and is geographically situated near the middle of the state. It has a population of about 700,000 people, and is generally acknowledged to be the cultural center of Texas. It lies along the Colorado River, and has three man made lakes within its city limits: Lake Walter E. Long, Lady Bird Lake (named for President Johnson’s wife) and Lake Austin. Austin is in a unique spot, ecologically speaking, and, due to this has a mixture of characteristics of the tropics and desert. This results in a large variety of wildflowers, and an unusually large variety of animals as well. Obviously, this is Texas, and Texas is warm, so pack for nice weather, whenever you come. Austin’s official slogan is “The Live Music World Capital”, and it tries to live up to this name by having more music scenes per single inhabitant than in no other city in America. You can find live music of any sort every single night of the week. There are also historical landmarks, like the State Capitol building, the Congress Avenue bridge, and museums, like the Bullock Texas History Museum, and Fort Tumbleweed Old West Town, which technically isn’t a museum, but is roughly 15 acres of historical buildings, preserved from the days of the Wild West. Austin is also home to the LBJ Presidential Library, maybe the most extensive library in the world. Austin is also home of the Austin Zoo, which is at least a day of fun for the entire family. Just outside the city, there is hiking, and numerous caverns, some coming complete with bats and waterfalls! And who can talk Texas without mentioning barbecue? Of course Austin has barbecue, but it’s an urban place, with fine dining to rival any large city in the world. There’s something for everyone in this small slice of the Lone Star State.
