Antalya Hotels
AntalyaAntalya is a city on the southern coast of Turkey. It sits high on a cliff overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, facing the Gulf of Antalya. It has a population of approximately 800,000 people, and has been called “without a doubt the most beautiful place on earth” in early historical documents. It is primarily a resort, with warm weather all year long. This lovely city has a hodge-podge of architectural styles, from Hellenistic to Byzantine, from Roman to Ottoman. Kaleici, the old town center, is as picturesque as any town to be found in Turkey or Greece, and there is a fluted minaret reachable by a 90 step staircase which dates from the 18th century which provides a magnificent view of the city, Gulf, and the Taurus Mountains. Antalya is the home of Hadrian’s Gate, the beautiful triple-arched gate built to commemorate the Emperor Hadrian’s visit to the city in 130 AD. Of course a city like this, steeped in history, has many, many beautiful ruins, but its location gives it access to fantastic sand beaches. There are museums to explore, and outdoor festivals of one sort or another for most months of the year. For the night owls among you, Antalya’s nightlife is legendary, with many clubs simply not closing at all until the sun is well up the next day. These nightclubs are spread throughout the city, with a few being concentrated in Kaleici, the old quarter. There are restaurants everywhere, from al fresco bistro style with umbrellas to full service sit down establishments, so there will be no problem finding something for everyone’s palate. There are waterfalls that fall right into the gulf, a spectacular sight, and hidden coves and inlets with the bluest water you’ve ever seen. Truly, this gorgeous little city is a jewel of the Mediterranean.
