Funchal

Funchal is a modern city with a unique location. It sits in a natural geological feature that forms an amphitheatre appearance. The amphitheatre starts at the bay and curves around to a high point of 1200 meters. When visiting Funchal you will see one of the most unique plaza squares anywhere in the world. Madeiran sculptures are amazing to see and the ones you’ll see at Praça do Municipio (Municipal Square) are no exception. The Municipal Square is surrounded by hundreds of black and white half-moons made from lava rock. The buildings surrounding it keep the subtle study between light and dark going by having whitewashed sides and black-stone trim. You will also want to visit the museum of religious art and the Câmara Municipal (city hall), once the 18th-century palace of a rich Portuguese nobleman. But don’t leave Funchal until you explore the coastlines. Why not take a picnic lunch down to the ocean-side and let the cool sea breeze blow in your hair. It is definitely true that Funchal will please and surprise you and of course we will help you find the exotic areas that only the natives know about.
