If you enjoy shopping, and would like to browse through over 300 booths in a flea market style bazaar of vendors, then the Waterlooplein market is exactly what you are looking for in Amsterdam. The Waterlooplein is the oldest and largest open-air market in the city, and has perhaps the most eclectic array of items for sale in any one spot. You can find t-shirts and tourist knick-knacks in one booth, and then two booths away you can find some rare collectibles and antiques, or some used books or records, or hand-painted ceramic tiles. There are literally thousands of different things to look over and buy, and you could easily spend half of a day exploring what this market has to offer.
After browsing through all of the booths, you should enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants or cafés located along the bazaar, with tastes ranging from local Dutch cuisine, to nearly every ethnic flavor you can imagine. While you are in the area, if you haven’t already done so, you should plan to stop by the Rembrandt House Museum, just a short walk from the Waterlooplein market, and see the famous spot where Rembrandt lived and worked, and is believed to have painted his masterpiece the Night Watch.
