Tuschinski Theatre

In a stunning architectural design that combines traditional Gothic architecture with the style elements of the Art Deco movement, the Tuschinski Theater in Amsterdam is the city’s finest cinema house. It was built in 1921, based on plans developed by the renowned Dutch architect H.L. DeJong, and has been recently fully restored to its original glory days. Like many older movie theaters, the Tuschinski Theater was designed to serve many purposes, and includes not only the standard auditoriums with movie screens, but also a quaint dinner club, called “La Gaité,” and even contains a Japanese tearoom. The interiors, decorated by famed designers Pieter den Besten and Jaap Gidding, are lavish and ornately detailed, and watching a film in this theater is an experience that you will not soon forget. Whether you see a modern release, or visit the theater when it is showing one of its many classic films, you will find that this theater restores some of the glamour and excitement that must have existed for movies when this theater was originally opened to the Amsterdam film viewers.
