Torture Museum

One of the most interesting places you will visit while in Amsterdam is the Torture Museum. When you get to the museum you actually enter through a gloomy tunnel and really get a good understanding just from the first moments in the museum as to why nations all over the world have outlawed torture as a means of confession or punishment. The torture devices you will see are horribly fascinating—devices such as the guillotine, the inquisition chair, the iron maiden, and other assorted grotesque instruments or torture. The museum itself is not very small and is located opposite to a flower market. The entrance fee is only 5 Euros but you get a real sense of the horror of the medieval period. Their tagline “Scarin the hell out of you” is true because the devices that they use are very frightening. The dim lighting is meant to give the appearance of a dungeon and perhaps the best thing about the museum is the feeling of freedom when you exit!
