Nemo Museum

The NEMO Science Center is a place that gives awe and praise to science and technology. NEMO is housed in a large modern building in the Easter Dock and was designed by famed Italian architect Renzo Piano. The design of the building seems to reproduce the beautifully graceful lines of an ocean-going ship. This brain training museum is called Nemo just like the famous character of Verne's Twenty Thousands Leagues Under the Sea. The center features hand-on experiences through experiments, demonstrations, and games. In fact the motto for the NEMO center is “Forbidden Not to Touch”. The admission fee is a bit on the expensive side but is definitely worth the cost. Through the center you will be able to execute a difficult surgical procedure, attempt to boost your earnings on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, blow a soap bubble that is large enough for a person to stand in, even boil potatoes. If you are so inclined, you can even learn the basis of sexual attraction. Ask a question and it will be answered, such as why is water normally clear but the ocean appears blue? Why does toothpaste contain sugar? And other questions you’ve been dying to know the answers to. Internet-linked computers on every floor help you to answer any other questions not answered by the museum itself as do the several workshops and theaters. There are also two cafeterias and a terrace with a terrific look over the smallest capital in Europe: Amsterdam!
