Museumplein

While there are many lovely parks throughout Amsterdam, perhaps the most centrally located and convenient park is the Museumplein Park. Museumplein is located near all of the major museums that you are likely to visit on your trip to Amsterdam, including the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Van Gogh Museum. It is also near the Central Station, so it is well suited for a day trip, and is easily accessible from the Metro. Hotels near the Museumplein are plentiful, and would be a good place to stay if you are looking for a central location in Amsterdam. The park itself has a large expanse of grass, which is well suited for picnics, or nearly any kind of field sport, or just simply spreading out a blanket and taking a leisurely nap. There is a man-made reflecting pool, which is converted to an ice rink during the winter months, and even a skateboarding half-pipe if you brought your board with you to Amsterdam. The southeastern corner of the park features two WWII memorials, commemorating both the women prisoners of Nazi concentration camps (at the Ravensbruck Monument), as well as the Roma war victims (at the Gypsy Monument).
