Madame Tussaud

Amsterdam's Madame Tussaud opened in 1971 in its former location in Kalverstraat. After only ten years the museum moved into the very heart of the city of Amsterdam, due to an ever growing collection. The museum settled in the location where it still is today in the Dam square. Besides statues of famous people from all over the world the Dutch collection includes many Dutch famous characters, like Anne Frank, Rembrandt, the Princess Beatrix and many more. The Madame Tussaud Amsterdam's Museum is considered as the home coming of Madame Tussaud's to continental Europe. The Founder of this Museum Chain, Marie Tussaud, her maiden name was Grosholtz, was actually French, and she learned to master the art of wax modeling from the physician for whom her mother worked as a housekeeper. She moved to London after the Reign of Terror and after being almost put to death for being loyal to French Monarchy.
