Jordaan

Located at the western end of the main canals, the Jordaan is a trendy district that has become a haven for young professionals, artists and students, and is within walking distance from the Leidseplein. It is highly recommended that you either walk to the Jordaan, or take public transportation, as parking in this district is extremely limited and difficult to find. If you plan on spending much time in the Jordaan, it would be a good idea to book a hotel along one of the Jordaan canals to get the full measure of what life is like in the district. You will find many quaint, and eclectic shops that deal in oddities, or specialized products unique to the Jordaan, along with a number of small art galleries with exhibits of local artists and occasionally some of the more renowned works from all periods. Sites to see in the Jordaan include the Anne Frank House, the Noorderkerk and the Westerkerk, there are also smaller but interesting venues like the Houseboat museum, and the Pianola Museum. There are literally hundreds of places to visit in this compact region of Amsterdam, all within walking distance of each other.
