City North

Just north of central Amsterdam is City North, which a newer addition to Amsterdam. While City North is a bit out of the way from the main areas of Amsterdam, it has the historic transit hub for the entire city in the Central Station. From this train station, travelers can go to just about anywhere in the city, and it serves as a terrific base for tourists that are new to Amsterdam, or who plan on seeing many different places throughout the city or the rest of the country. There are a number of nearby first-class hotels, and many tours depart from the Central Station to all areas of Amsterdam and beyond. If you prefer to book guided tours, then City North is a perfect place to begin your journey through Amsterdam, and Central Station will likely be your starting point for each day’s adventures. The station itself is an architectural work of art, built in the 1880’s, and designed in the Neo-Renaissance style, and is an impressive feature of City North, particularly when you consider the sheer volume of travelers and cargo that pass through this one center of commerce.
