Amsterdam Tulip Museum

Many people associate the tulip with the Netherlands and the Dutch, though it originally came from the Turkish Ottoman Empire during the 16th century. When it was introduced to The Netherlands, it became extremely popular among the upper classes, and since the flowers thrived so wonderfully in the climate of The Netherlands, it became a national fascination and has been grown there ever since. Because the tulip was so popular with the wealthy citizens of The Netherlands, the business of growing tulips became very lucrative and competitive. Growers strived to grow their stock of tulip bulbs, to the point where tulip bulbs were traded in tulip bulb stock exchanges, with some of the mot rare bulbs selling for the price of a small house. The Tulip Museum tracks the history of the tulip in The Netherlands, and has a number of varieties of tulip bulbs for sale in its boutique. It is located within walking distance of the Anne Frank House, and is a nice stop for an hour or so if you are in the area and want to learn a bit about tulips.
