Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

When flying in to Amsterdam, you will arrive at the Schiphol Airport, one of the major air traffic hubs of Europe. Schiphol began as a military airbase in 1916, and was constructed in a former large, though shallow lake, where many ships were lost during storm seasons. The name Schiphol, translated to English as “Ship Hole,” was derived from this history. If you would like to take in some sights at the airport, you should consider proceeding to the Panorama Terrace, which is a viewing platform built atop the airport, with sweeping views of the surrounding region. The Schiphol Airport connects to the main railway system of Amsterdam, through the Schiphol railway station, and is an easily accessed and inexpensive method to travel from the airport to nearly all areas of Amsterdam via the railway system, though there are many other methods of transportation from the airport, including taxis, airport shuttle buses, and rental cars.
