Just as with most major European cities, Amsterdam has an extensive public transit system that includes a full train system throughout the city, as well as connection points to a citywide tram and bus system. If you are within the city limits, you will find it very easy to get around, and many of the public transit options are very reasonably priced. There are also the usual taxis and limousine services available, for those that are inclined to travel via those methods. If you are fine with walking, you could easily see just about everything you could want to see in Amsterdam simply by using public transit and your own two legs, and do it on a tight budget. All of the other standard transportation methods, including renting car, are available though you might find parking in the city to be more trouble than it is worth. There are also some canal boat routes that can get you from points in the city, though these are less common, and go only to major locations, and if you are one of those types that enjoys exercise, you can rent a bicycle and explore the city on your own, and take it all in with the wind in your face, and for very little money.
