Sorrento Hotels
SorrentoWhen people think of Italy, they usually think of Rome, Venice, Naples, Florence, the island of Sicily, you know, the “biggies”. Sorrento is a small town (about 16,000 people) on the Mediterranean coast. It overlooks the bay of Naples, and is only a short drive from Naples itself. It has stunning views of the hills and the ocean, and of Naples. It is famous for its production of limoncello, a drink made from lemon rinds, alcohol, and sugar. You will love the idyllic scenery, the scent of orange blossoms drenching the air, the view of the blue, blue sea. The isle of Capri is also visible from Sorrento, and all of the above mentioned places are easily accessible by car, Vespa, boat, or hydrofoil. There are a surprising number of museums, considering the size of the town, and most open all year, excepting holidays. For those who prefer shopping, the Via S. Cesareo is the heart of the shopping district, where one can find ceramics, preserves, the delicious limoncello, which was mentioned above, and every other local ware imaginable. Sorrento has a quaint, historic feel, but there is quite an active scene happening at night. There are movie theatres, nightclubs, pubs, wine bars and restaurants, of course, and even bowling. Most people will just want to poke around the town, at a leisurely pace, or pack a lunch and wander the hills above the town. The beauty of Sorrento is hypnotic, and a stay there never seems long enough.
