Siena is known not only for its cathedrals, but also for the Siena Jazz School. Jazz musicians from all over the world come to study and play here. Courses and classes are available all year long, but there is also an annual two weeks festival where jazz musicians from all over the world come to Siena to perform concerts and celebrate jazz music. If you want to travel to Siena, you will want to stop at many places within the city. First, you cannot go to Siena without visiting Siena’s cathedral called the Duomo. This is a prime example of Italian Romanesque architecture and was built in the twelfth century. It was meant to be the largest cathedral in the world, but after the completion of half of it, the rest of the project was abandoned. Visitors to the Duomo can still see the east wall that was never completed. Down at the Piazza del Campo, you can see the famous Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre Del Mangia. Piazza del Campo is most famous for hosting the Palio horse race. The town square is really a place where you can see the customs and culture of Italy. If you visit the Palazzo Pubblico, you will be able to view the art museum that is housed inside. Here you will be able to see some of the most famous frescos by artists such as Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti.
