Rimini: Rimini is a small town (about 140,000 permanent inhabitants) with a big reputation for fun. It is located on the northeastern coast of Italy, along the Adriatic sea; just below where the “boot” that forms Italy flares. It is a town geared toward young people, a resort known for its roaring nightlife. You can hit the beach during the day and soak up some sun, and then a quick shower and change of clothes and you’re ready to hit the clubs, many of which are right along the beach. However, don’t think that, just because you’re not a twenty something who wants to dance the night away, Rimini has nothing to offer you. Rimini, besides being home to one of the most famous Italian directors Federico Fellini, has beautiful historical architecture, some dating back to before the Middle Ages. There is the famous amphitheater, the Rocca Malatestiana, which was used at one time as a prison, the Tiberius Bridge, the Tempio Malatestiano (a cathedral), and many beautiful fountains, parks, and statues. There are over fifty museums, and too many bars and restaurants to count. In addition, there are amusement parks, even a water park, if you want to get wet, but don’t like seawater. Rimini is a destination spot even for Italians, so you know it must be fun, because locals could choose to go anywhere, and they choose Rimini, too! The center of Rimini is a Pedestrian Paradise (no automobile traffic) during the busiest parts of the day, so people can relax and explore the city at their leisure. There is an old section of town where one can poke around and look at antiques and local wares, but there’s also a new, cosmopolitan section that could be mistaken at first glance for South Beach in Miami, it’s that colorful and eclectic. There’s a beautiful marina district, where most of the restaurants just open up and become al fresco dining establishments, as do most of the cafes and bistros all over town. Rimini is sometimes called “The Riviera of Italy”, and with good reason.
