Lucca: Lucca is an old town that is located in central Italy in the region of Tuscany. Lucca sits on the river Serchio. Lucca is also home to the most famous science academy, the Academy of Sciences, established in 1584. Also, if you are a fan of Puccini you will want to be sure to stop by Puccini’s House. It is open to the public and also hosts the Puccini Opera Festival annually in the late summer. Some of the buildings that are worth checking out on your vacation are the St. Martin’s Cathedral, the Ducal Palace, and The Church of San Giorgio. These are some of the most important buildings in Lucca with the longest and most fascinating histories. To learn more about the life and times of old Lucca, you can check out the National Museum to get a better history lesson of these magnificent place. If you are lucky enough to be traveling through Lucca in the summer, you can come to the annual Lucca Summer Festival, which has been host to many well-known names in music such as Santana, Eric Clapton and Roger Waters.
