The Silver Museum, also known as the Silverworks Museum, is a collection of all kinds of precious treasures from the Medici that have been pulled together over the years, and put together in a section of the Palazzo Pitti. The treasures that can be seen in this rare museum include jewelry and other objects in silver and other precious metals and often inlaid and encrusted with all types of rare materials, including gems and semi-precious stones and ivory, among others. The collection also includes similar precious items from other periods, including the Napoleonic period. Some of the better-known pieces include a gold-mounted lapis lazuli vase that was cast by the goldsmith Bilivert in the 16th century, and a collection of cameos representing the late Anna Maria Luisa of the Medici family. While visitors to the museum will find the collection to be awe-inspiring and elegant, they will also be quite impressed by the setting of the museum as well, since it resides in the Pitti Palace, which is a work of art in and of itself. The hours and days that the Silver Museum is open to the public varies throughout the year depending on the month, so be sure to check with the museum office to ensure that it will be open during your stay.
