The Museum of the Ancient Florentine House, also known as the Davanzati Palace Museum, was originally built in the city of Florence during the middle 14th century by the wealthy Davizzi family. The Davanzati family later bought the palace in the middle 16th century, and it is their family crest that still remains on the façade of the palace to this day. The purpose of the Museum of the Ancient Florentine House is to recreate a setting that closely resembles what life would have been like for Florentines living in the period between the 14th and 17th centuries. The furnishings, and artwork have all been meticulously collected and arranged to make the museum as authentic as possible, and visitors will find that walking through the grand doors of the Museum of the Ancient Florentine House is almost like walking through a passageway to the past, where they can see and experience life as an ancient Florentine. The true beauty of this museum’s presentation is the attention to even the smallest of details, such as the fully furnished bedrooms, right down to the clothing that would have been worn by the people of the house, and the kitchen with all of the utensils and tools that were used to prepare the family’s Florentine meals.
