Assisi

Assisi is located in Italy in the province of Perugia. Assisi sits to the west of Mt. Subasio. Many people will recognize Assisi as the birthplace of St. Francis, the founder of the Franciscan order in the thirteenth century. First, you can go to the Chiesa Nuova. This is a building that was presumed to be the parental home of St. Francis. You can also go to the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi. This is where St. Francis’ honor established a church and monastery. It was built just after his canonization and has beautiful frescos in the lower part of the church that were painted by Giotto and Cimabue.
