Santorini: Santorini, Greece, is located on a small circular archipelago in the beautiful Aegean Sea. About 200 kilometers south of the Greek mainland, it forms the southernmost tip of the Cyclades islands. If you arrive by sea you will not be confused about where you are. However if you arrive any other way you might get Santorini confused with the islands other name, Thira. Many historians believe that the volcanic explosion that formed the circular shape of Santorini is the reason for the legend of the destruction of Atlantis. When you travel to Santorini, Greece, one of the first things you’ll notice is the beautiful view of the Aegean Sea. Santorini is a small circular archipelago in the Southern Aegean Sea and is part of the Cyclades Islands. One of the primary ways to arrive in Santorini is via boat and when you arrive at port you will be amazed at the beauty of this island destination. There is more than one village on the island and you’ll want to visit as many of them as possible. First up is Fira: Fira has a spectacular view of the old volcano’s caldera that you can’t see anywhere else on the island. One of the best times to visit Fira is in the evening since all the day-trippers from the cruise ships have left the island by evening. Fira is the busiest city on the island of Santorini and you will find an abundance of jewelry stores. You will also want to see Ia. Ia is considered by many to be the most beautiful village on the island. Despite the earthquake that destroyed most of the village you will still enjoy restored buildings and the surviving 19th century mansions. The ruins of the fortress at the western end of the town is the best place to see the spectacular Ia sunset.
