Westminster BridgeGeneral Info Westminster Bridge is arguably the most famous bridge in Great Britain. It spans the River Thames between Westminster and Lambeth in greater London. It is an iconic image of London and of England, having been featured in countless films and photographs, usually with the Tower Clock and Houses of Parliament in the background. The original Westminster Bridge was completed in 1750, though it has been complete replaced in the years since. It opened to the public in its current form in the mid 1800s. Like most bridges which span the River Thames, Westminster Bridge is designed for both foot and automobile traffic; it is approximately 830 feet long, and 80 feet wide. The bridge is painted green, to match the color of the seats in the House of Commons, which is on the Palace of Westminster side nearest the bridge itself.
