Tower of LondonGeneral Info The Tower of London as a much impressive name, Her Royal Majesty’s Palace and Fortress! Commonly called “The Tower” it is a complex of different buildings enclosed behind a defensive wall. The first fortress was built under the rule of William the Conqueror in 1078. Since 1303 this impressive complex holds one of the largest collections of jewels in the whole world: the Jewels of the Crown. Through the centuries “The Tower of London” has been a fortress, a prison (many famous characters have been held hostages behind its walls), a mint, a zoo and more.
