The National Gallery

London’s National Gallery is a museum located in Trafalgar Square in central London. Though London’s National Gallery is not as large as other collections located in Europe, within its over two thousand paintings is an unusually high concentration of important or significant works. This is due to the fact that a single person founded this particular national gallery in the 1800s, as opposed to the governmental bodies that founded other, larger national galleries in other countries. Though for the most part the Gallery is open daily, certain sections are always closed for cleaning or repair, and works of art are regularly loaned to other institutions. It’s always best to confirm that a particular piece is there and available for viewing before you go. The museum provides guided tours of all sorts, from those for the disabled to those with small children. There are also audio guides for self-guided tours, available for specific themes and sections of the museum. The Gallery also contains numerous restaurants and cafes, and shops located on various levels of the building.
