Regent's Park

Landscape combined with architecture, placed in the very heart of London, make Regent's Park one of London wonders. 166 hectares, ( almost one fourth available for outdoor sport activities), an important site for wildlife and popular among bird watchers (over 200 species in the very heart of the town) and a variety of flora going from wide open fields to wetland, woodland and wildflowers grassland. Last but not least the rose gardens with over 30.000 roses of 400 varieties. A royal hunting ground until 1646, Regent's Park was transformed into an urban park by the architect John Nash although general public entrance was allowed only in 1835 (during the reign of George IV). The XX century saw the creation (in the 1930s) of Queen Mary's Gardens. An open air theatre (from the end of May to early September), a lakeside theatre and the London Zoo, a canal with embankments, cafés, and restaurants are some of the attractions of this gorgeous park.
