Petticoat Lane and MarketGeneral Info Petticoat Lane Market is a street market located in eastern London. It is open during the week to a limited degree, but it is the Sunday market that has made Petticoat Lane world famous. It is close to the well known Brick Lane and Spitalfields Markets, along with the Columbia Road Flower Market, but Petticoat Lane has a character all its own. The other locations are more tailored to London tourists, but primarily the local Londoners themselves frequent Petticoat Lane Market. The name Petticoat Lane is a bit of a misnomer, as there is technically no “Petticoat Lane” in existence anymore; the name of the street was changed to “Middlesex Street” in the early 1800s; however, the name persists to this day. Petticoat lane caters to the thrift shore shopper in everyone, with an emphasis on vintage clothing, leather goods, and household wares. It’s like one big garage sale, always colorful and full of large, noisy crowds. This is not the place for the latest in expensive designer labels, but rather for the hidden bargain hunter who lives in us all.
