Imperial War Museum

The Imperial War Museum, located in Lambeth Road in London, is considered to be the premier museum of its sort in the British Isles. It has an extensive library which is open to the public every day but Sunday, a photographic archive, and an art collection related to global conflicts of the twentieth century, with particular emphasis on those involving the British Empire. In addition to these physical artifacts, the Imperial War Museum is home to a large archive of oral recordings, including interviews with survivors of the various wars. There are exhibits which feature war memorabilia, weapons, and even military vehicles. The building itself is a beautiful domed structure, which was originally home to one of London’s first royal hospitals. The museum moved to its current location in 1936, after its original site burned down. There is no entrance fee to the museum, though certain exhibits may involve nominal charges. Donations are always accepted, and the museum is open to the public daily.
