Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a park that is located in Central London. It contains the long, meandering Serpentine Lake, and adjoins Kensington Gardens, though it is considered a separate park. The main difference between the two is that Kensington Gardens closes at sundown, but Hyde Park is open until midnight. Hyde Park has a place in London’s historical popular culture as a gathering place for dissidents, such as war protesters and Suffragettes (you can hear a reference to this in the mother’s song in Disney’s popular feature film “Mary Poppins”. Hyde Park is also famous for its Speakers’ Corner, the Crystal Palace, and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial. There is a bridge over the lake from which most of the park’s vistas can be enjoyed, and a stage where some of the biggest names in rock and roll have performed. Hyde Park is home to the famous botanical curiosity the Weeping Beech, as well as the Holocaust Memorial. Hyde Park is centrally located, and accessible via most of London’s public transportation.
