Greenwich peninsula and Millennium Dome

The Millennium Dome is a large arena that was built at the tip of the Greenwich Peninsula to celebrate the end of the second millennium.  It was ablaze with light like a birthday cake for most of the year 2000, though it has been underutilized since then.  There were many ideas on how to best make use of the facility after the Millennium Celebration ended, and the Dome and the Greenwich Peninsula sat undeveloped for a few years.  Now, however, it has been decided that the Dome will become part of the complex for the 2012 Olympic Games, which are to be held in London, and the Greenwich Peninsula will see significant development during the next four years. For now, the Dome is a spectacular sight on its own, and the area around it is ideal for walking and biking.  There are clipper boats to ferry people from the center of town to the area and back which offer beautiful views of the river and The City, but during peak tourist season the lines for the boats are very long.  This area is also serviced by the London Underground.
