The Embankment is more commonly referred to as The Thames Embankment. The Thames Embankment is a major part of the area and it is constructed during he nineteenth century. The civil engineering of The Thames Embankment was designed to take back the marshland that is located next to the River Thames within the central part of London.
There is a vast amount of history that shows that prior to the Embankment being built there had in fact been many attempts to complete such a project but they had all been unsuccessful.
The first attempt to build The Thames Embankment was made by a man called Christopher Wren during the 1660’s. During 1824 a ex soldier known as Frederick Trench came up with a design for The Thames Embankment however this plan was thrown out by the government.
The work on the present Thames Embankment that is located on the northern side of the river was started during 1862 and Joseph Bazalgette initially designed this. The designs for The Thames Embankment aims to incorporate the primary lower levels of he sewer interceptor that comes from the western part of London. The designs for the Embankment that Joseph Bazalgette reclaimed about twenty-two acres of land from the river.
