Covent Garden is a district of eastern London known for its shopping, entertainment, and lively street scenes. The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, which is located there, is known simply as Covent Garden. The Covent Garden district is roughly bounded by Charring Cross Road, High Holborn, Kingsway, and the Strand. The Covent Garden Piazza, or Square, was the sight of the famous Covent Garden Market, which sold fruit, vegetables, and flowers from the sixteenth century until the mid-seventies, at which time the whole thing moved to New Covent Garden Market in nearby Nine Elms. Though no longer home to the Market, Covent Garden is still one of the city’s busiest areas, bustling with people all day and night. There are nightclubs, pubs, museums, and an eclectic mixture of upscale and trendy shopping spots. In addition to the opera house, there are many other cultural activities, including museums and smaller theater venues. Going to Covent Garden will provide you with entertainment of any type, no matter what your interests or budget.
