Clerkenwell

Clerkenwell is a neighborhood located in central London, in the borough of Islington.  It was once referred to as “Little Italy”, due to its concentration of Italian immigrants.  It takes its name from the “Clerks’ Well” in Farringdon Lane, the remains of which are still standing today.  

Clerkenwell has long been known for its pubs and restaurants, popularly believed to be some of the best in the world.  It is home to the famous Jerusalem’s Tavern, as well as St. John, one of London’s finest restaurants.  Clerkenwell is also home to Leather Lane Market, a collection of shops where leather goods, jewelry, and other accessories can be bought at discount prices.  Some of the trendiest nightclubs in London are also located in Clerkenwell, so it’s easy to while way an entire day shopping, then an entire evening clubbing. Being in central London, it is easy to find Clerkenwell, whether it is by taxi, on foot, by bus, or underground.  It is serviced by Farringdon station centrally; however, there are many other stations along the outlying areas of Clerkenwell itself.
