Saint Germain des Prés

This zone on the "Rive Gauche" became, in the years following the Second World War, the centre of the artistic and cultural life of Paris. Musicians, writers, directors of the "Nouvelle Vague", actors and philosophers met in the bars and the cafés of this quarter. The nightlife took place in the dugouts called Caves, where performers had jazz sessions. You will have a chance to have a drink at "Les Deux Magots", café where Hemingway used to hang out during his stay in Paris. In the church after which this quarter was named, that is the oldest church in Paris, you will find the graves of Cartes and King John Casimir of Poland, who became abbot of this church in 1669. Victor Hugo and Voltaire lived in this area.
