Montparnasse Train Station

The Gare Montparnasse (Montparnasse Train Station in English) is one of the large terminus stations located in Paris, France, in the 15th arrondissement. It began strictly as an above ground train station, but of course now it has metro service underground as well. Gare Montparnasse is the site of the famous Granville-Paris Express train derailment that occurred on October 22nd of 1895. This event has been preserved for eternity with the iconic photograph of the locomotive, which jumped the tracks and plowed through a platform and a two-foot thick wall, to fall to the ground some thirty feet below and land almost completely perpendicular to the ground. Trains departing Gare Montparnasse typically service locations in western and southwestern France, such as Brittany, the Loire Valley, Normandy, and northwestern parts of Spain as well. It is centrally located, and has all amenities, including restaurants, cafes, wifi hot spots, and a currency exchange bank. There are also numerous small shops in the station.
